Solid Waste Recovery Plant
The Solid Waste Resource Recovery Plant (Fosston Incinerator) is the main disposal facility for our mixed municipal waste (garbage). Since this facility does burn our MSW, it makes sense to not put non-burnable items into our garbage stream.  The following is a partial list of items that are NOT accepted at the Fosston Incinerator:

  • Steel Banding
  • Animal Remains
  • Paint
  • Solvents, Gasoline or Used Engine Oil
  • Aerosol Cans
  • Tires or Wheel Rims
  • Large Metal Items
  • Steel Fencing
  • Pesticides
  • Appliances
  • Furniture
  • Tree Branches, Grass Clippings or Leaves
  • Demolition Debris

These items can either be recycled or disposed of at the proper facility within the county or at the Polk County Sanitary Landfill at Gentilly.

If you have any questions about the above places, feel free to call the Environmental Services Office at 784-5493.
